Platinum Wedding Ring Set
When a man ditches the wedding ring, is it a sign of trouble in paradise? by Mark
Many couples enjoy the intimacy that matching wedding rings represent. But the trend today in men's wedding rings allows for a much wider assortment of choices for the ring he will be wearing for years to come.
The recent marriage of Kim Kardashian to Kris Humphries, demonstrated that the bride and groom's wedding bands need not resemble each other. In keeping with their black and white theme, the couple chose a platinum and diamond eternity band style ring for her and a black plain band with a single white horizontal stripe for him. Each ring was designed exclusively for the couple.
However, it seems that Humphries' disappearing ring has set off a media frenzy. Every second tabloid is claiming that the absence of the designer wedding ring on his finger in pictures of the couple returning from their short honeymoon in Italy is indicative of problems in the new couple's relationship. What is truly interesting is that prior to World War II, it was a rare man who actually even wore a wedding ring. Today a naked ring finger on husband or wife has become a subtle hint that there is trouble in paradise.
Whatever reason Humphries has for not wearing his wedding band, it is not for lack of style or choice in men's rings. The plain gold or platinum standard band is still popular, but the world of new designer styles has opened up for the future groom. Wedding rings now can reflect not only the marital status of the man, but are being designed to reflect a unique masculine essence. The design of the male wedding band has taken on a life of its own, with jewelry manufacturers showing sensitivity to their tastes and fashion trends.
Diamonds have found their way into the many choices for men's wedding bands. Once, the large diamond pinky ring was part of the image of the tackily dressed mob boss. That was the main incidence of diamonds in men's jewelry.
Today you can find wedding bands for men in many different metals: gold, platinum, tungsten, titanium, palladium, and more. Diamonds can be present as small inlays, or with larger center stones (as seen on men's "engagement rings"). Even the delicate rose gold is represented in new collections. Men's wedding bands can be found in expensive designer high end styles to simpler ring designs and less expensive metals.
Whatever the choice, once a man has chosen to have a ring put on his hand at the wedding, he should not be surprised when turning up with a bare ring finger will start some controversy. Especially if it happens in the same week as the wedding! Having a good excuse ready might be helpful, such as "I had an allergic reaction to the ring" (or perhaps to being married), or "the ring doesn't fit properly" and is at the shop for some fine tuning.
