A smaller diamond that has been cut perfectly will be worth far more than a larger, less expertly cut one.
If you are selecting a diamond by the size, keep in mind that you may be able to afford a slightly larger diamond if you buy one that is sold in the âoffâ size- a diamond that is judged to be .99 rather than a full carat will be less expensive than the full carat and no one but a diamond expert would ever really know the difference between the two sizes.
A final note on size and carat: if you are truly concerned about the size of the stone, you could opt for a fancier cut than the brilliant or round cut. Because some of the fancier cuts are used to make up for flaws in the raw stone, you may be able to end with a larger diamond than you would assumed possible.
