How to Buy an Engagement Ring by Julie Carlson
If you are thinking about proposing marriage to the woman in your life, you should know how to buy an engagement ring. Here are tips and tricks on how to buy the perfect engagement ring for your future wife.
Diamonds are the most common jewel in a wedding ring. If you are planning to buy a diamond wedding ring, you should consider the following tips and the four C's:
- Your budget: a diamond wedding ring can be costly. So, you should consider you budget before you buy one. Many men consider two to three months' salary as an appropriate amount to spend on an engagement ring. Your budge, of course, will depend on your personal circumstances and may be more or less than that.
- Her style: you should know what style she likes. You can see this in the jewelry that she is wearing or the ways she reacts to the pictures of jewelry that she sees in magazines. This is all about her so you really should take care with the style of the wedding ring you are purchasing.
The four C's that you should also consider in picking for the perfect engagement ring:
- C for Cut: The cut of the diamond in the engagement ring determines the sparkle of the diamond. There are several "cut" styles to consider including round, square, oval, etc. Look for a diamond ring with good sparkle. Round is the most common cut of diamond, so rest assured that this is a good cut. You will see many different cuts at the jewelry store or other bridal outlet stores that carry diamonds. The cut you select will depend largely on the woman's preferences.
- C for color: Colorless or white is the rarest color of diamond. If you want to look for a diamond ring with this color, you will find it to be very expensive.
- C for Clarity: you will know the clarity of the diamond if you use a magnifying glass because it can't be seen with your naked eye. However, a diamond without good clarity will have less brilliance. Just make sure that the diamond's grade is slightly high. Ask the jeweler about the grade.
- C for Carat: the carat is the size and measurement of the diamond. This is different from the term karat used for gold. Obviously, the bigger the carat, along with a high grade of color and clarity, will render a more expensive diamond.
You should ask the jeweler what the four C's are before purchasing the diamond ring. Diamond rings are good investments - whether used in an antique engagement ring or a modern engagement ring. As the saying goes, diamonds are forever.
