You don't need to hire a wedding planner to avoid unwanted stress on your wedding day; you just need to get organized. It doesn't matter if there is a year till the wedding, a month or a week if you make a plan you can easily get thing ready in time with limited Bridezilla moments.

1. Make a timeline - write down all of the jobs you need to do. Flowers, dresses, thank you notes, wedding license, venue, gift registry, band, tux fittings, rings; now get a calendar and write all of these jobs on the calendar. As you work you way through you will need to add more. Be sure to find some reliable friends and relatives whom you can delegate to or drag around wedding stores.

2. Send the wedding day plan to the bridal party - you should make a timeline of the wedding day, include the places and times you want people to arrive and what they need to bring with them (for example do brides maids bring their dresses to hair and make up appointments). Be very specific, if you want someone to pick up the cake state the time and who should do this. Some people will find this a little controlling but it helps people to know the pan for the day and what is expected of them ahead of time. Of course it is best if you ask people to do any of the jobs you assign them before you send them the timeline. It is possible to get wedding day timelines which are smart phone compatible. These are great for the day so people do not need to carry around a paper schedual.

3. Hair and makeup - be sure to do a trial with the hair dresser and makeup artist you want for your wedding. Just because your hairdresser has cut your hair well for years doesn't mean she will be able to do exactly what you have in mind for your wedding. If the trial doesn't go to plan then test out someone else. It is your day to look beautiful, don't settle for your mother in the bathroom with packet of bobby pins and a can of hair spray. The same goes for make be sure to get a trial what looks good on a model in a magazine might look too much on your skin tone. You don't want to find that out on the wedding day.

4. Wedding band - organize the band as soon after you choose a venue as possible. Good bands book out well in advance. Be sure to get them to sign a contract so that you don't need to worry about them not showing up if they get a better offer.

5. Involve your husband in the planning- Yes, it is true many men are not as excited about planning a wedding as women are but you do want to have a wedding you are both excited to attend. Ask your husband what kind of wedding he wants, formal, semi formal, BBQ in the backyard? Try to find compromises that you will both be comfortable with. He doesn't need to be involved in every decision, you can probably pick napkins without his input but he should definitely be there for the big ones for example venue, cake, theme, music.
